Kazakh Cowboys

What do you think about when you picture Kazakhstan?

These pictures really captured my imagination.

I devoured horse books when I was younger – Black Beauty, My Friend Flicka, By the Shores of Silver Lake (and a few others that I can’t remember the names of…help me out – which horse books did you read?).

Wouldn’t a horse story set in Kazakhstan be a great book? Don’t you wish these pictures went along with a great cowgirl and horse book??

Is this what you picture when you think about Kazakhstan?

Did you know that, according to National Geographic (and just about everyone in Kazakhstan), people first tamed/domesticated horses on what are now the steppes of Central Asia? There’s an enormous, long-standing tradition and culture surrounding horses in Kazakhstan. Kazakh people milk horses, herd them, and even eat horse meat…

Beautiful pictures, no? You can find more Kazakh cowboys and horses HERE. All pictures are from voxpopuli.kz.
