Filming at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy

photo by Denis Sinyakov for Reuters

This was one of the most enjoyable shoots I’ve been able to do since coming to work at this news agency.

The academy was this wonderful mix of drafty, old Soviet hallways, strict straight-backed ballet teachers, and nine-year-old Russian ballerinas running around in tutu’s, twisting their legs over their heads.

It’s the kind of Russia I love – faded Soviet splendor, rigid tradition, excellence, and total class. I was so impressed. Why can’t all of Russia be like this? Russians really shine when they want to.

I won’t say much more other than to give you the link for the article and photo’s polished up by my coworkers! (I have yet to find an online link for the video we turned, sadly).
