After three years here, I’ve come to expect the unexpected in Moscow. Summer is no exception.
For one thing, there’s the weather. This summer has been unusually hot for Moscow. Relentless sun, 30+ Celcius every day, high, white, cloudless skies, scorched dry grass, smelly garbage bins, and fantastic business for ice cream stands!
The other unexpected thing you can count on in Moscow are all the surprise visits, parties and events. Things are very last-minute here. At the beginning of June, as usual, summer seems to stretch away long, hot, green, and empty. All our ex-pat friends leave for their various overseas homes, and all our Russian friends head to Europe, Turkey, Egypt or their dacha. Work usually slows down, and the season can seem lonely and boring. Something or someone always shows up last-minute, though!
This weekend I had the unexpected surprise of a friend from Paris stopping by for a week (we went to the Izmailovo flea market), a last-minute birthday party, another friend visit from Minnesota (originally from Moscow), and some delightful cooking experiments from our (unexpected!) farmer’s market finds!
My husband commented that my blog pictures seem to all be from Flickr lately. I might also add that they seem to all be of food, like this is some sort of food blog or something. Well, here are a few weekend pictures from my camera (yes, some of them are of food!) Enjoy!
